In Love and Gratitude for all Mother's around the world

Growing up in America, celebrating holidays is a custom to follow through most of our lives. For me at my age, knowing all about the origin of a holiday and how it came about is important to me now more than ever. After becoming a mother myself, I realize what a special day this is in honoring the mothers around the world.
Mother's Day was first celebrated in 1908, when a woman named Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in West Virginia. In 1905 her mother passed and she began a campaign to make Mother's Day a recognized holiday in the United States.
Her Mother, Ann Jarvis, had been a peace activist who cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the American Civil War and created Mother's Day Work Clubs to address public health issues. Anna Jarvis wanted to honor her mother by continuing the work she started and to set aside a day to honor all mothers because she believed a mother is "the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world." The holiday was not recognized until 1914 when Woodrow Wilson proclaimed it to be a national holiday to honor mothers.
Anna Jarvis wasn't so happy once businesses began to make profits off of the holiday with printed cards, she said that Mother's Day cards should be hand written expressing their love and gratitude, instead of buying gifts and pre-printed cards.
I feel inspired writing this today about Anna Jarvis. Her determination to succeed in something she was so passionate about, the love she put into it and the difference she made in the world that we all get to celebrate through her admiration and love of her mother.
Maybe you feel inspired to hand write a card for your mother this year.
Maybe you feel inspired to donate to a non-profit that supports mother's and children.
Maybe you feel inspired to feed the homeless on this day and act as Mother Teresa did, that everyone is our child or to remember everyone has been a child.
Maybe you feel inspired to offer love and prayers to Mother Ocean and Mother Earth.
Whatever way you decide to honor this special day, please send love, prayer and intention so we are all connecting in this vibration of support to all mothers around the world. Knowing and feeling that we are loved, supported and appreciated for the creation that we carry for our future generations.

Love and so many Blessings,
Onkar
